Wheel throwing can be exhilarating and offer instant gratification, adding some interesting challenges to your learning journey.
To be able to use a potters wheel to create clay objects is a fascinating skill. A person can instantly see the outline of a design as they learn to throw.
This course is for mixed ability learners. If you are a beginner, then you will learn from scratch. If you are already know throwing, we will focus on developing your skills further.
Classes will take place at Woodley Hill House (Network vineyard church), which has a well equipped studio with natural daylight. There is ample parking space on the grounds of the church.
What to expect–
*You get in-depth understanding of throwing skills.
You get to develop -Wedging, kneading and preparing clay for throwing.
Centering,
Pulling a pot to create height.
Understanding shape formation and impact of clay manipulation on a form on potters wheel.
Turning/trimming
*You get to learn in a well equipped pottery studio with professional equipments in an unhurried pace.
*the course aims at serious learning in a fun and calm environment.
*access to pottery books for reference.
*You get 4 full days of learning-8th, 9th, 10th and 11th of April. Timing- 10.am to 3.30 pm
*Students can pick 4 final works which will go into bisque firing (cost included in the course fee).
*An extra glaze firing will be charged at £25.00 for 4 objects within 1 kg each. Your work will be glazed with basic coloured glazes.
*I will inform you once the fired works are ready for pick up from a predetermined location (either from my own studio or Woodley Hill House).
Please expect atleast a 4-6 weeks for firing.
Important note: The course is limited to 7 spaces only.

Course outcome:
*At the end of the course, a student will be able to make objects on potters wheel independently and confidently.
*correct use of vocabulary for throwing on potter’s wheel, use of tools and equipment.
*understanding of clay’s temperament in throwing and how to work in tune with it.
*make large or small objects with proper techniques.
