Description

Wheel thrown tableware in pottery can be exhilarating and offer instant gratification, but can be challenging at the same time.

To be able to use a potters wheel to create clay objects is a fascinating  skill. A person can instantly see the outline of a design as they learn to throw.

Pottery wheel throwing course.

This course is for mixed ability learners. If you are a beginner, then you will learn from scratch and if you already know throwing, then we will focus on upgrading your skills further.

Classes will take place at Woodley Hill House (Network vineyard church), which has a well equipped studio with natural daylight. There is ample parking space on the grounds of the church.

What to expect

*In depth understanding of throwing skills.

* learning in a well equipped pottery studio with professional equipments and resources.

*the course aims at serious learning  in a fun and calm environment.

*access to pottery books for reference.

*The course is split over 4 days- 24th, 25th and 26th July, followed by 8th August, details of course programme will be emailed on enrolment.

* 4th class is after a gap of few days. This is to ensure that enough works have dried and  been through first bisque firing. 4th day is for learning to glaze.

*Glazed works can be picked up from a predetermined location (either from my own studio or Woodley Hill House). A day and date and time will be emailed later.

Please expect atleast a 2-3 weeks for firing.

Important note: spaces are limited to 7 due to 7 pottery wheels.

Included in the cost are the following :

Materials (clay, underglazes, glazes etc) , tools & Equipments & Studio space

Teaching hours.

2 firings

You take your best 3 works with you.

Light refreshments and tea, coffee are included.

Not included in the cost:

tools (to take home)

Lunch

travel or overnight stay cost (if applicable)

Course outcome:

*At the end of the course, a student would be able to make objects on potters wheel independently and confidently.

*correct use of vocabulary for throwing on potter’s wheel, use of tools and equipment.

*understanding of clay’s temperament in throwing and how to work in tune with it.

*make large or small objects with proper techniques.
