Hello there,
I am a ceramic designer and maker based in Reading, Berkshire. I make small batch objects, tableware and lights in my studio located in the scenic grounds of Yeldall Manor, outside Reading. Clay is my forever muse and medium.
I am drawn towards the unexplored aspect of a material and its processes and lean towards being non-conformist in my visual aesthetics. Handcrafting timeless, simple objects which stand the test of time brings me joy. My work is an essence of my Indian heritage juxtaposed with my life in England.
Conceptually, at one end I enjoy the visual aspect of illustrating moments of my life. This line of work is translated as surface design on homeware and tableware. All of my tableware is either wheel thrown or slab rolled by hand and crafted to compliment the illustrations I draw.
At the other end is the need to mull, think, absorb to push the so called limitations of clay as a material to make objects and sculptural lights.
A bit about my past journey:
An award winning fellow of Charles Wallace Scholarship Trust Award (India) from British Council, I have been working as a designer for close to 25 years, first 10 of which were spent in India working as a designer for design houses like Good Earth Studios, Ishika Tableware, Piramyd Retail stores etc.
Since moving to the UK, I set up Imbyou, a design gallery to curate and promote British and Indian designers on various platforms between UK and India.
As a designer, I have showcased my work at West Elm, Liberty Store London, Clerkenwell Design Week, Handmade at Kew to name a few.
